As a lifestyle photographer based in the Fairfax/Springfield area, I’m always on the lookout for beautiful, local outdoor locations that offer variety, natural light, and a peaceful setting for families and couples to relax and be themselves. One of my absolute favorites? Burke Lake Park in Springfield, Virginia!

This park has something special in every corner—making it not only a photographer’s dream but also a fantastic place to enjoy with your family before or after your session.


A Variety of Backdrops in One Spot

One of the best things about Burke Lake Park is the variety of scenery it offers—all within walking distance! Whether you're planning a maternity session, a cozy family shoot, or branding portraits, here’s what you can expect:


Open grassy areas: There are several beautifully maintained open fields with cut grass, ideal for those wide, light-filled shots with a soft, clean background.


Rustic fence with pond backdrop: A favorite of mine! This charming wooden fence with a peaceful pond behind it gives a perfect mix of structure and serenity. It’s especially beautiful at golden hour.


The lake itself: The large, calm lake is the heart of the park. It offers stunning water views and reflective light—great for couple portraits and those serene moments of connection.


Woodsy trails and forest vibes: Whether you want cozy, shaded forest paths or that warm, golden glow through the trees, Burke Lake delivers. The trails and wooded areas add depth and texture to your photos, creating that timeless, earthy look.


A Family-Friendly Park to Enjoy After Your Session

Beyond being a perfect photo location, Burke Lake Park is also an amazing spot to simply enjoy a day outdoors—especially for families with young kids! After our session, you can head over to one of the multiple playgrounds to let the little ones run free, ride the train (currently inactive & only during summer season), grab a snack, or just unwind with a walk by the water.
