Why Motherhood Photography Matters to Me
Motherhood is one of the most beautiful seasons of life — and also one of the most exhausting. The days are full, loud, messy, emotional, and fleeting all at once. Time moves in a way that feels unfair: slow during the hard moments, and impossibly fast when you look back. One day you’re carrying a baby under your heart, and the next you’re watching them walk away from you, book in hand, growing more independent by the minute.
This is why motherhood photography holds such a special place in my heart.
As a Virginia lifestyle photographer, I document maternity, newborn life, and the everyday moments of raising children through storytelling photography and in-home sessions. I’m in this season of life myself, and because of that, my work feels deeply personal. I don’t just see what motherhood looks like — I live it. And it brings me so much joy to create images for other moms that reflect the beauty they often forget exists in their daily lives.
Let’s be honest: life with kids can be stressful and overwhelming. There are days filled with overstimulation, exhaustion, and self-doubt. Days where you feel touched out, behind, or unsure if you’re doing enough. In those moments, it’s hard to see how incredibly beautiful what you’re doing really is. My goal as a lifestyle motherhood photographer is to create images that bring feelings of peace, gratitude, and reassurance — images that remind you: this matters, and you matter.
I often describe myself as a “girls’ girl” when I photograph families. My heart especially lies with moms. Like many women, I haven’t always been blessed with a partner who naturally captures candid photos of me and my children. Most of the time, if I want a photo, I have to ask. And once I do, the moment instantly changes. The kids notice. The mood shifts. Suddenly, instead of quietly reading a book together, they’re making silly faces or hamming it up for the camera — and the real moment is gone.
That’s exactly why I’m so passionate about what I do.
During my in-home lifestyle sessions, I step in so moms don’t have to ask. I capture the moments they rarely see themselves in: the way they instinctively hold their child close, the quiet care in their touch, the patience they offer even when they’re tired. I document motherhood as it truly is — tender, strong, imperfect, and endlessly loving.
These sessions aren’t about perfection. They’re about presence. About telling the story of your motherhood journey in a way that feels honest and emotional. Whether you’re carrying a baby under your heart, newly postpartum and navigating the fragile early days, or a seasoned mom who’s occasionally overwhelmed and overstimulated — you deserve to feel seen.
I want my mothers to look at their images and feel peace. To feel proud. To feel grounded. To see themselves the way their children see them: safe, beautiful, and full of love.
Motherhood photography isn’t about staged smiles or perfect homes. It’s about preserving a season that will never come back in quite the same way. One day, the toys will be gone. The little hands won’t reach for you anymore. And when that day comes, I want you to have images that don’t just show what life looked like — but how it felt.
This is why I do what I do.
To create beauty where it’s often overlooked.
To remind moms of their worth.
To tell their stories with honesty and heart.
Because motherhood, in every stage, deserves to be remembered.
